Celler Pinol is located in Batea, Terra Alta, the most southern region of Catalonia. At 500 meters above sea level, the area is characterised by a medieval appearance and the sprinkling of small towns throughout the mountains and countryside. It has a timeless beauty, where rugged mountains contrast sharply to sweeping plains filled with crops of ancient Mediterranean stock (grapes, almonds, olives).
The climate is Mediterranean, with hot summers, cold winters and a day to night temperature contrast that increases the maturation rate of our grapes. Low annual rainfall (350-400) and generous sunlight (2800 hours) yield great fruit, boasting all the characteristics of truly good wine. In addition to the favorable climate, the calcareous brown soil has proportionally little clay and is poor in organic matter, which allows lower production and a greater complexity and intensity in our wines.
At CELLER PIÑOL , we believe healthy, organic farming methods (using only ecologically friendly methods without herbicides, pesticides or sistemics) produce the finest fruit. From the first planting of the seed, we control the maturation process of the fruit, harvesting only at the ideal time. We know the quality of our wine is directly related to the health of our grapes and so we pay careful attention to the vineyards each day. From pruning to leaf stripping, we ensure that each bunch is fully exposed to the sun and allowed to mature to its fullest.
Celler Pinol produces the following varietals:
WHITE: Garnacha, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and Macabeo.
RED: Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnatxa, Merlot, Syrah, Tempranillo and Morenillo.
NEW VARIETALS: We have recently incorporated new varietals such as Petit Verdot, Marselan and Verdejo. Our goal is to preserving local varieties while adding new ones to create fine wines with great personality, worthy of the Celler Pinol name.
